Choose your preferred Architects’ finish
Andy writes: “Bringing new life to your front door is one of the simplest ways of updating your exterior and setting the mood to welcome guests into your home. Use Architects' Matt for an elegant flat finish, Architects’ Eggshell for a sophisticated low sheen, Architects’ Satin for an elegant mid sheen or Architects’ Gloss for a distinguished, high-shine front door. Every Paint & Paper Library colour is available in each of those four options.”
Architects’ Matt
With its 3-5% sheen, choose Architects' Matt to achieve a sumptuous matt finish on your front door. This self-priming finish is also completely washable, with excellent scuff and stain resistance, making it a great practical choice too.
Architects’ Eggshell
Drying to a low sheen of 10-20%, Architects’ Eggshell is a classic choice for an elegant front door with a very subtle sheen. With a built-in primer, Architects’ Eggshell can be painted directly onto bare or previously painted front doors.
Front Door: Slate II
Terracotta Pot: Slate V
Architects’ Satin
This durable, low maintenance paint has a smooth satin sheen of 30-35%. An excellent choice to achieve a beautiful front door transformation with a tough, hard-wearing finish that will withstand the elements.
Architects’ Gloss
With an 80% sheen, Architects’ Gloss is a luxurious choice to attain a traditional high gloss, reflective finish on your front door. Pairing particularly well with rich dark hues, Architects’ Gloss is also highly durable and protective. If painting over aged gloss paint, prime first with Architects’ A.S.P.

Find front door colour inspiration
Before committing to a colour for your front door, it is important to consider the surrounding elements. As with any interior update, the colour you choose must work harmoniously with other parts of the scheme to ensure your final entrance is coherent and sophisticated. You should also consider how your front door colour will transition into the rest of your home – whether you choose a tonal pairing or a statement colour contrast.
Andy writes: “When it comes to choosing a colour, consider the architectural style, age and location of your home. Select a shade that comfortably complements – or elegantly contrasts with - surrounding brickwork or render, and don’t forget the ironmongery too."
Chinese Emperor Front Door
"A bright and vibrant yellow such as ‘Chinese Emperor’ will bring a playful moment of joy to a white rendered building, whilst striking blue-green ‘Iguana’ or soft green ‘Sprig IV' will pair beautifully with bare brickwork."
Iguana Front Door
Sprig IV Front Door
"The deep exotic red ‘Soumak’ will create a smart and sophisticated feel alongside natural stone, bringing a personality-filled and beautiful first impression.”
